Music
Music, yeah, my favourite topic haha, sorry all you guys who have to go through this all the time, I'm just totally music obsessed. Anyway, for today theres just one thing on my mind, and that is how much I hate radio.
Radio in Singapore is pathetic, all the trash they play on the airwaves gosh... honestly its not music at all. Looking at the current trend in the taste of youths, its disgusting, what their listening to nowadays is just plain disgusting. Like that Akon song Lonely, WHAT ON EARTH DOES HE THINK HE'S DOING? He just butchered a perfectly nice classic oldie, I love the original but what he did is just musical murder, its unacceptable. All these rappers taking old songs, making it sound ridculous and using them as loops in their songs, their destroy the good old classics and its horrible. Sure if they want to do a remake of an old song its okay, but DEFINATELY not like that, doesn't do the song any justice if you just make it sound plain stupid. The rest of this hip-hop, r&b scene isn't much better either, all the cussing, and all the other immoral stuff, and its not like the music or the singing is any good either, seriously don't get what all the raving is about.
Next up is the slew of punk/rock wannabes. Whats up with those kids? Pop bands mascarading as "punk" acts, pop princesses trying to become "kick-ass rockers", seriously they should just stick to what they do instead of trying to get into the whole rock and punk thing. Strangely enough, Singaporeans are lapping up all these bottom class wannabes, the music taste of Singaporeans are just at a all time low now. And I wouldn't even mention anything about the Singapore Idol people, I'll be at it all night.
What I don't like is why radio is encouraging this bad taste to fester and grow, I guess it does get more listeners and up ratings, but I just see it as more poisoning. Introducing more of those lousy music and promoting all these pathetic excuses of musicians and singers is annoying, and they turn anything good I used to listen to into a nightmare. Like they play some good songs that I listened to months ago which is nice yeah, but than they overplay it and gosh... thats when it gets really sick. Can't they have like better guidelines for replaying songs? Cause overplaying just kills some songs really.
And just for your info, I don't listen to radio yeah, or at least I try not to, but my bro listens to it sometimes and its on in the office also so yeah, and what I'm hearing just turns me off.
Honestly I feel like setting up my own radio station next time, and play some nice different music. Singaporeans just don't get enough musical exposure, all they know is the 'in' stuff they hear on radio, but theres so much more to music that all that. I guess only the hardcore like me will really bother to explore, I go from genre to genre searching for the lesser known more experimental bands, theres no limits to what you can do with music and yeah, I want to go all out and just absorb everything. Currently I'm more into emo music, emo-rock, emo-punk, etc... and alternative, indie, music, the stuff you never hear on radio. And my new CDs, Copeland's In Motion and Cool Hand Luke's The Fires Of Life are totally awesome. Copeland's CD is highly emotional high energy melodic rock, basically just emo-rock and their good, have very good vocal blending and a nice melodic sound. As for the Cool Hand Luke album, its a really interesting Christian album, the songs are slow and have a lot of feel, and the good use of violins and harps with good vocals just makes you feel the songs. Other than that I still have my on going love affair with jazz music, but its just so hard when I can't find the stuff I want here, ARGH... like why is the selection of jazz albums in Singapore so limited? I'll have to wait till I'm older and have a credit card to start getting those great albums you just can't find in stores here... Hm... may be I'll set up a music CD shop next time that'd be interesting don't you think? ;)
